Ethical Employment:

Single motherhood is a crisis in the villages of real Guatemala and women who are desperate to provide for their families, often fall victim to modern slavery. We partner with a business that trains sing moms in rural Guatemala to craft high-quality leather goods. Women once without safe or purposeful employment are now earning a living wage and benefit from heath insurance and bonuses. Job creation is our purpose and your purchase simply sustains that.

Quality Resources

Guatemalan Women have hand woven their clothing on a backstop loom for centuries and passed along the tradition through the years. Huipil (pronounced Wee-Peel) is the Spanish word for the traditional blouses won by Mayan Women for centuries. They are still prominent in Guatemalan and a few other Latin American cultures today. The Huipil is the most prevalent part of a woman’s traditional Dres and is of great cultural significance to the Mayans. THe weave or design of each Huipil can identify the village she is from and is a work of art.

A Huipil can sometimes take months to complete and can last up to 30 years, and then can be recycled into a handbag or other product. We crafted your product with recycled Huipil from the department in Guatemala renowned for the most intricate Huipil, Chichicastenango.

The leather is sourced for your product from a family-owned tannery. For generations this Guratemalan family from the region of Momostenango, has created the highest quality leather money can buy, full-grain leather, and utilized the oldest tanning method, o natural tannins such as tree bark.

This intricate Huipil from Chichicastenango and full-graded leather from Momostenango are handcrafted into beaufitufl bags, luggage tags and more by single mothers and their mentors, all earning a living from he area of Chimaltenango, Guatemala.
